When our eldest son was four and our younger son just two, we received their autism diagnoses. Like most parents, we thought diagnosis was the first step toward support. We were medical professionals and business leaders – surely, we could navigate this system.
We had no idea we were about to enter a 15-year war for our children's basic rights.
What followed wasn't support – it was systematic abandonment. The local authority, the very institution legally obligated to help our children, became our greatest adversary. For the first five entire yearsafter diagnosis, they assigned no caseworker to our boys. Five years of critical early intervention lost. Five years when the brain is most plastic, most capable of forming new pathways. Gone.
